The building was constructed in the 1940s by the farming cooperative of the day. During the 60s, an annex was added that was used as a “caveau à patate”, or potato storage facility. In 1994, writer Victor-Lévy Beaulieu of Trois-Pistoles came up with the idea of transforming the building into a cultural centre. The author named it the “Caveau-Théâtre” in honour of all who had worked there. The theatre is now owned by a non-profit organization run by volunteers.
